My photography:  My featured gallery displays photos that were used for a new book that I photo illustrated, Baptized in Sweet Tea (ISBN 978-0-9843457-2-2), written by Ken Burger. The book comprises columns Ken Burger wrote for the Post and Courier about growing up and living in the South. This gallery has additional related photos that were not included in the book.

My photographic interests are wide-ranging as shown in the remaining galleries. My portraits of babies, children and adults are environmental portraits, not studio shots.  Most portraits are in full color, but I post-process some into black and white or sepia for different effects. My portrait gallery includes examples of both available light and flash photography. My style will frequently employ negative space in my composition.

Two of my galleries showcase more artistic efforts that are suitable for framing, one for flowers and the other travel and still life. My flowers include those shot in gardens and yards, as well as some posed in my house. The macro shots provide a new perspective of the intricate beauty of each flower. My travel photos include natural landscapes and cityscapes from United States, Canada, and Europe.

Another gallery is dedicated to sports photography. I have shots from the sidelines of college football games and from the stands of baseball, softball, volleyball, and soccer. I have also photographed golfers and boxers in action. The challenge of sports photography is to capture high speed action and freeze it in an aesthetically pleasing frame.

Personal information: I am a psychology professor recently retired from the College of Charleston in Charleston, SC.  I received my bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering from Georgia Tech and worked at NASA in Houston at the Johnson Spacecraft Center. I returned to Georgia Tech to complete a Ph.D. in psychology. My wife, Dr. Martha Watson, and I live on Johns Island, SC where we welcome children and grandchildren for regular visits.

Throughout my adult life I have had an interest in photography, starting with my first experiences in the darkroom. When I had enough money, I purchased a single lens reflex (SLR) film camera to enrich my photography. When digital photography appeared and started to mature, I purchased the best point-and-shoot camera I could find. Then the frustration of not being able to replicate my SLR film experiences motivated me to buy a digital SLR camera. I now have two DSLR cameras with a nice variety of lenses including macro, wide-angle zoom, standard and telephoto zoom.
